What's New in Speech

Happy Valentine's Day

It's hard to believe February is already here!  February is one of my favorite months to celebrate...maybe because I share George Washington's birthday on the 22nd!  This month will focus on Groundhog's Day, Valentine's Day, and President's Day activities.  We will end the month with a unit on Chocolate.  We will learn everything you ever wanted to know about chocolate....this is another reason I enjoy Speech in February! 

Please continue to check your child's folder regularly for new homework and as a means of comunication between home and school.  From time to time, I might write notes or send notices home about upcoming meetings and activities.  Below are a list of books we will be reading in the month of February.

Welcome Back!  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break.  I'm excited to be back and looking forward to our Winter Theme.  We will be reading the following books in the month of January:

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow

Plenty of Penguins

The Mitten

The Jacket I Wear in the Snow

The Snowy Day

Activities and homework will be centered around these books.  If you have these books at home or are able to check them out at the library it would be great.  That way you can review with your child what we have been doing in the classroom.  We will be getting a Smart Board for our classroom which will make our activities even more exciting and interesting. 

During the month of December we have been studying a Gingerbread Unit.  We have read The GIngerbread Man and The Gingerfbread Baby.  The students enjoyed retelling both stories using puppets.  We have compared/contrasted the two stories using a Venn Diagram, as well as discussed characters, setting, problems, and solutions.  The children's favorite activity was baking gingerbread men and decorating them.  We discussed two new vocabulary words while cooking:  spatula and ingredient.  The students made their own gingerbread men books to take home.  Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to seeing all of my students in January.

My name is Stephanie Rosato and I am a part-time Speech-Language Pathologist at Kennesaw Elementary School.  This is my seventh year working in Cobb County.  I graduated from Valdosta State University in 1992 with my B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology.  I went on to receive my M.ed from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 1997.  I love teaching here at Kennesaw Elementary.  The kids and staff are amazing!!

I have been married for ten years and have two beautiful daughters, ages 6 and 2.  I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, shopping, and scrapbooking.  I look forward to working with your child this year and have high expectations for all of my students.  If you need to contact me I am available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday during school hours.
