Week of October 26th

This week in our class, we will be reading the story Tracy's Trip. The focus lesson will be about main characters. I am going to send home a copy of the story with every student. Please read Tracy's Trip with your child so that they can become familiar with the story and who the main character is. We will be having a comprehension test about Tracy's Trip on Friday. In Language Arts we are continuing to work on our letter writing skills. The students should be publishing their post cards by Friday. I hope everyone has a great Halloween

Week of October 19th

This week in our reading block, we will be reading the story What is a Map? We will be discussing how to preview a story before reading it to gain better understand of the passage. Students will also be comparing and contrasting different types of maps. In language arts, we will be reading A Day in My Life which is story about Abby who lives in Alaska.The students will be learning the characteristics of non-fiction writing. The students will apply their knowledge of non-fiction by writing a postcard to Abby who lives in Alaska.  We will be practicing our letter writing skills for the next couple of weeks.

Parents please continue to read with you child at home. While reading, discuss whether the story is  non-fiction and why.
