Welcome to the start of a new decade! It was the 87th day of the children's year in kindergarten when they returned on January 5, 2010. This leaves approximately only 91 days for US to accomplish the rigorous Georgia academic standards and prepare them for the first grade curriculum. Each of these remaining days will be filled with many new concepts and much review in reading, writing, math, technology, science, social studies, health, art, music, and physical education.
WOW!!! This doesn't sound like the kindergarten we went to, does it? This IS kindergarten at Kennesaw Elementary this school year.
In my experience, the children who were the most successful in school and exceeded expectations were those whose parents took an active role in their children's education. Here is a short list of some of the ways you can help your children be successful:
· Make sure they get ten hours of sleep every night
· Feed them healthy meals and snacks
· Read to them for at least 15-20 minutes a night
· Have conversations with your children; talk with, not at, your children
· Find ways to use math in everyday situations (counting everything, including money)
· Assist them with correct letter formation
· Teach them to do things for themselves-allow them to be more independent
