Fall Break

I want to wish everyone a safe and restful fall break.    I know we are all going to enjoy the time with our families.    Have a great time! 

Homework

Please remember the homework that will be due on October 1st.  I hope everyone has been pacing themselves and doing a little at a time.  Don't forget the reading logs.    The children need to be reading at least 20 minutes each day.   Please record the book in the reading log.    During the break, you can take a break from the reading log. 

Writing

Our focus this week has been narrative writing.  We have heard some very interesting personal narratives.  Our class has a lot to share!  Look for your child's narrative writing in his/her folder today.

Math

This week we started using Accelerate Math.  The students were all very excited!   Some of the students brought home their scored practice.  Please assist your child with corrections if necessary.    Please contact me with any questions.  We will be discussing Accelerated Math during conferences.

Five Georgia Regions

The students and Mrs. Haklik have been working hard on brochures, posters, and books detailing the five regions of Georgia.  What great work they've been doing!    Ask your child to tell you what they've learned about the regions.

Homework Folders

I hope everyone received the homework folders on Tuesday.  Our homework is due on October 1st.  Please work a little each week instead of rushing through all at once.  It's easy to get behind. 

Math

This week we worked on estimation.  The children had the opportunity to explore different materials to estimate.  Ask your child how close they were when they were estimating.  We have also continued to work with two digit addition with regrouping.  Next week we will begin working even more on graphing paying close attention to the graph key.    Keep practicing those math facts.  Most of the class has a good grasp on the addition facts.  We all need to practice our subtraction facts.
